What do I do if I receive a suspicious check?
If you think you’ve been targeted by a counterfeit check scam, report it immediately to any of the following agencies:
- The Federal Trade Commission at FTC Complaint Assistant ().
- The U.S. Postal Inspection Service at (if you received the check in the mail).
Do cashed checks get reported to IRS?
A check payable to you and cashed at the paying bank is not reported unless you are walking out the door with more than $10,000 in cash. But a cashed check creates a paper trail. It’s really up to the business that pays you to report that to the IRS, either through a W2 or a 1099.
Can a check be processed based on the number in the courtesy box?
It may not be the end of the world if a check is processed based on the numbers in the courtesy box—sometimes that’s the amount that the check writer intended to pay, and what the payee expected. However, it’s not a good idea to use checks when the amounts don’t match.
Where do I record payments in MYOB account?

How to correct a payment made or received?
